Commissioners Proceedings Statement - Tuesday, May 5, 2026 The Sheridan County Board of Commissioners convened May 5, 2026, at the County Courthouse. Notice of the meeting was published in the Sheridan County Journal Star and on the County website, sheridancounty.ne.gov. The meeting was open to the public and conducted in accordance with the provisions of the Nebraska Open Meetings Act. Present were Chairman James Krotz, Commissioners Dan Kling and Bruce Messersmith, Clerk Sindy Coburn, Treasurer Renee Thies and citizen observer Monica Colbath. There was no business for the Board of Equalization. The Board of Commissioners reviewed and approved a rural subdivision of less than 10 acres in T32-R45-S28 for Gregory and Susan Gramberg. The Commissioners discussed and then tabled the USDA Wildlife Amendment until May 19 Tim Brewer, our County Animal Control Officer, can join the discussion. Interim Road Superintendent Rod Norton reported that recent rains made possible the deployment of road graders on several days. Much more rain is needed. Norton also reported that Big Iron Auction of surplus equipment will close on May 6, and that he has placed an order for a 5,000 gal. water trailer costing $82,475. He also announced the hiring of Justin Steele. The Board discussed and approved a resolution authorizing the Chairman to sign an agreement with the Nebraska Department of Transportation that gives NDOT control of the Federal grant that will fund 80% of the cost of paving certain one lane roads in the Antioch area, an agreement required by the Federal Government. Building and Grounds Superintendent Jeff Davis introduced Taylor Hughes the new housekeeper for the Courthouse and Annex. Sheriff Jeff Brewer appeared briefly to introduce his newest Deputy Ryan Steele. The next regularly scheduled meeting of the BOE/BOC will be Tuesday, May 19.
