Commissioners Proceedings Statement - Tuesday, January 20, 2026
The Sheridan County Board of Commissioners (BOC) met on Tuesday, January 20, 2026, at the County Courthouse. Notice of the meeting was published in the Sheridan County Journal Star and on the County website sheridancounty.ne.gov. The meeting was open to the public and conducted in accordance with the provisions of the Nebraska Open Meetings Act. Present were Chairman James Krotz, Commissioners Dan Kling and Bruce Messersmith and Clerk Sindy Coburn.

There was no business for the Board of Equalization (BOE).

The Board of Commissioners (BOC) audited and approved salary claims and signed claim checks.

Clerk Sindy Coburn presented to the Board an email from Jeff Schreier of the office of the Nebraska Auditor of Public Accounts informing her that it would not be necessary to advertise and conduct a public hearing in order to transfer funds from the Local Assistance and Tribal Consistency Fund (LATCF) to the courthouse building fund. The Clerk and Treasurer need only to prepare a Journal Entry removing the disbursement for courtroom doors from the building fund and, with the Board’s approval, record the disbursement in the LATCF fund.

Interim Road Superintendent Rod Norton reported that he has yet to deploy the snowplows this winter. Ads have been placed requesting bids for our proposed fuel contract. Bids are due by Feb. 3. The new 15-wheel packer is to be delivered tomorrow. Repairs to the Bourne bridge on 325th Trail immediately east of Hwy. 87, damaged by a motorist, are estimated to cost $19,950. Negotiations with the motorist’s insurance company are in progress.

At the time for Public Comment, Commissioner Krotz announced that upon adjournment of the meeting he would proceed to the office of the County Clerk and file for re-election.

The next regularly scheduled meeting of the BOE/BOC will be Tuesday, January 20. The minutes of this and all meetings of the Board of Commissioners will be available to the public at the office of the Sheridan County Clerk and now are available online at sheridancounty.ne.gov.
