Commissioners Proceedings Statement - Tuesday, December 23, 2025 The Sheridan County Board of Commissioners (BOC) met on Tuesday December 23, 2025, at the County Courthouse. Notice of the meeting was published in the Sheridan County Journal Star and on the County website sheridancounty.ne.gov. The meeting was open to the public and conducted in accordance with the provisions of the Nebraska Open Meetings Act. Present were Chairman James Krotz, Commissioners Dan Kling, Clerk Sindy Coburn, Treasurer Renee Thies and Assessor Tina Skinner. Commissioner Bruce Messersmith was excused for the day to enjoy his new hip. The Board of Equalization (BOE) reviewed and approved three Correction Sheets as presented by Assessor Tina Skinner. The corrections were to update the property owner name(s) on the tax list. The Board of Commissioners (BOC) audited and approved salary claims and signed claim checks. Treasurer Renee Theis presented to the BOC her report on pledged securities by depository banks holding more than the FDIC maximum of County funds. Theis and the Commissioners discussed the need for some public notice regarding the fact that tax payments must be made “to the penny”, no rounding up or down, and that pennies may be in short supply in the coming year. It was agreed that such notice should be published. The BOC approved the appointment of Austin Reed to the County Extension Board. Interim Road Superintendent Rod Norton reported that the woodchipper has been delivered and is now in use. The 11 Bridge Inspection reports reveal that only minor repairs are needed. He also reported that gravel had been hauled to 20 different roads in the past 5 months. Sheriff Jeff Brewer reported that two deputy candidates have been accepted into the State Law Enforcement Academy and that a new cook has been hired for the jail. Weed Superintendent Melissa Grover submitted her year-end reports for review and the BOC authorized the Chairman to sign reports for submission to the State. Grover also submitted her chemical inventory report. The Board discussed briefly the proposed 2027-2030 Salary Resolution for Elected Officials and received helpful input from the Clerk and Assessor. The Resolution will be finalized at the next BOC meeting in January. The next regularly scheduled meeting of the BOE/BOC will be Tuesday, January 13. The minutes of this and all meetings of the Board of Commissioners will be available to the public at the office of the Sheridan County Clerk and now are available online at sheridancounty.ne.gov.
