Commissioners Proceedings Statement - Wednesday, August 27, 2025 The Sheridan County Board of Commissioners (BOC) met on Wednesday, August 27, 2025, at the County Courthouse. Notice of the meeting was published in the Sheridan County Journal Star and on the County website sheridancountyne.gov. The meeting was open to the public and a ZOOM connection was also available. Present were Chairman James Krotz, Commissioners Bruce Messersmith and Dan Kling, Clerk Sindy Coburn, Budget Consultant Caleb Johnson, Treasurer Renee Thies, Building Superintendent Jeff Davis, Weed Superintendent Melissa Grover, Clerk of the District Court Carol Stouffer and VSO Jason Hotz. The sole agenda item was a review of the final draft of the 2025-26 budget as prepared and presented by Mr. Johnson. Small adjustments were made as needed in consultation with the various Officials/Superintendents. The Commissioners agreed on a final Proposed Budget that will result in a tax decrease from 0.304416 to 0.299437 for the coming year. Because the proposed county tax asking is within the limits set by statute the County will not be required to present at the “pink postcard hearing” for governmental subdivisions. The proposed Budget will be presented at a Public Hearing on September 23 at 11:00 a.m. After the Hearing the BOC will make a final decision on the document. As part of the Budget preparation process the Commissioners approved resolutions approving Petty Cash Funds for the offices of the Clerk ($50), the County Court ($500) and Treasurer ($50) and setting Tax Allocations to Miscellaneous Districts: Ag. Society $110,000, Historical Society $15,500, Road District 31 $5,200, Road District 33 $10,258, Road District 36 $4,550. The next regularly scheduled meeting of the BOE/BOC will be Tuesday, September 9. The minutes of this and all meetings of the Board of Commissioners will be available to the public at the office of the Sheridan County Clerk and now are available online at sheridancounty.ne.gov. All meetings of the Board of Commissioners are held in compliance with Nebraska Open Meetings Act and the public is always welcome.
