Commissioners Proceedings Statement - Tuesday, August 26, 2025
The Sheridan County Board of Commissioners (BOC) met on Tuesday, August 26, 2025, at the County Courthouse. Notice of the meeting was published in the Sheridan County Journal Star and on the County website sheridancountyne.gov. The meeting was open to the public and a ZOOM connection was also available. Present were Chairman James Krotz, Commissioners Bruce Messersmith and Dan Kling, Clerk Sindy Coburn and Treasurer Renee Thies.

There was no business for the Board of Equalization (BOE).

Krotz, as the County representative to the Region 23 Emergency Management Board, presented to the BOC the recently completed, FEMA-required update of the “Region 23 Hazard Mitigation Plan.” The Commissioners voted to approve Resolution 2025-18 adopting the Plan in its entirety.

Interim Road Superintendent Rod Norton reported that Kustom Rock Crushing has provided the agreed upon 5,000 yds of gravel required to make up for a billing discrepancy discovered earlier in the year.

The BOC, Clerk and Treasurer affirmed that the proposed loan of 75,000 from the Inheritance Fund to Road Fund for the 2024 purchase of a motor grader had proven unnecessary and no transfer of funds had taken place.

Sheriff Jeff Brewer stopped by to report that there was “no news” from his department, which everyone agreed was “good news.”

The Board adjourned at 10:30 and will convene tomorrow morning at 9:00 to review with Budget Consultant Caleb Johnson his final draft of the 2025-2026 Budget.

The next regularly scheduled meeting of the BOE/BOC will be Tuesday, September 9. The minutes of this and all meetings of the Board of Commissioners will be available to the public at the office of the Sheridan County Clerk and now are available online at sheridancounty.ne.gov. All meetings of the Board of Commissioners are held in compliance with Nebraska Open Meetings Act and the public is always welcome.
