Commissioners Proceedings Statement - Tuesday, November 19, 2024
The Sheridan County, Nebraska Board of Equalization (BOE) and Board of Commissioners (BOC) met on Tuesday, November 19, 2024, at the County Courthouse in Rushville. Notice of the meeting was published on the county website sheridancounty.ne.gov. The meeting was open to the public and a ZOOM connection was also available. Present were Chairman James Krotz, Commissioners Dan Kling and Bruce Messersmith, County Clerk Sindy Coburn, Interim Road Superintendent Rod Norton and Clerk of the District Court Carol Stouffer.

There was no business for the Board of Equalization.

The Commissioners audited an approved salary claims and signed claim check that totaled $215,672.18. 

The BOC visited with representatives of ZELLE Human Resources via ZOOM for an update on the search for a Road Superintendent.

Interim Road Superintendent Rod Norton reported the contract hauling of red rock has ended for the year. Bridge inspections for the year are complete and of the 12 in this year’s cycle only one requires a small repair. Norton intends to place an order for a 1000-gallon fuel tank for the Hay Springs shop.

The Board tabled a discussion concerning comp time policy pending guidance from NIRMA in the wake of a recent Federal Court action overturning a Department of Labor Rule that was to inform our discussion.

Interim Weed Superintendent Melissa Grover that the new Department pickup will be delivered in September.
The Board voted to accept the proposal from Eakes Office Solution for a new courthouse phone system. The cost of the system is $17,160. The new VOIP system could yield savings of $100/month or more on service.

The next meeting of the BOE/BOC is scheduled for Tuesday, November 26 at 9:m. The minutes of this and all meetings of the Board of Commissioners will be available to the public at the office of the Sheridan County Clerk and now are available online at sheridancounty.ne.gov. All meetings of the Board of Commissioners are held in compliance with Nebraska Open Meetings Act and the public is always welcome.
