Commissioners Proceedings Statement - Tuesday, September 17, 2024 The Sheridan County, Nebraska Board of Equalization (BOE) and Board of Commissioners (BOC) met on Tuesday, September 10, 2024, at the County Courthouse in Rushville. Notice of the meeting was published on the county website sheridancounty.ne.gov. The meeting was open to the public and a ZOOM connection was also available. Present were Chairman James Krotz, Commissioners Dan Kling and Bruce Messersmith, County Clerk Sindy Coburn, and Treasurer Renee Thies. There was no business for the Board of Equalization. The Commissioners audited and approved claims for payment. Treasurer Renee Thies conferred with the Commissioners regarding the investment of Road Funds for Districts 31, 33, 36 and 43. The Board voted to authorize the Treasurer to cash out the District 31 CD at BMO and invest the proceeds in the Nebraska Public Agency Investment Trust (NPAIT) now paying a daily return of 5.22%; to close the District 43 savings account and invest the funds with NPAIT; and to invest a portion of the District 33 and 36 funds with NPAIT retaining a portion in each of the existing funds. Interim Road Superintendent Rod Norton reported that the new bulk tank at the Gordon shop is a 1,000-gallon tank, not 5,000 gallons as this stated in the Proceedings of 9-10-24. Norton suggested that the County extend the roadside mowing deadline until such time as much hoped-for rains reduce the fires hazard posed. The Commissioners approved the extension. The Board authorized the Chairman to write a letter informing GMC of Chadron that the Gordon Rural Fire District is funded by Sheridan County tax dollars and is therefore qualified to purchase their proposed new grass-rig using the Sheridan County fleet number. Clerk of the District Court Carol Stouffer, chair of the Employee Handbook Committee, appeared to express her concern regarding a proposed change in the vehicle reimbursement rate for the Building Superintendent. County Attorney Jamian Simmons assured the BOC that they have the authority to make the change but stated that the next update of the Handbook should reflect the new policy. The next meeting of the BOE/BOC is scheduled for Tuesday, September 24 at 9:00 a.m. The minutes of this and all meetings of the Board of Commissioners will be available to the public at the office of the Sheridan County Clerk and now are available online at sheridancounty.ne.gov. All meetings of the Board of Commissioners are held in compliance with Nebraska Open Meetings Act and the public is always welcome.
