Commissioners Proceedings Statement - Tuesday, April 16, 2024
The Sheridan County, Nebraska Board of Commissioners (BOC) met on Tuesday, April 16, 2024, at the County Courthouse in Rushville. Notice of the meeting was published on the county website sheridancountyne.gov. The meeting was open to the public and a ZOOM connection was also available. Present were Chairman James Krotz, and Commissioners Dan Kling and Bruce Messersmith. Also present were Clerk Sindy Coburn, Treasurer Renee Thies and Clerk of the District Court Carol Stouffer.

Acting as the Board of Equalization (BOE) the Commissioners reviewed a Correction Sheet presented by Assessor Tina Skinner. The proposed Correction would modify the depreciation recovery period for personal property owned by Quadient Leasing USA from 7 years to 5 years. The BOC approved the Correction Sheet.

Jean Andersen of AFLAC Insurance presented a report on employee participation in this supplemental insurance offered through the county.

Interim Road Superintendent Rod Norton reported that work on 270th Lane south of Hwy. 20 is now complete. The 3-mile project required 227 loads of native rock and red-rock, about 4,500 tons at a total cost of $250,094.

Assessor Tina Skinner reported that the state Office of the Chief Information Officer (OICO) had recently informed her that the state no longer wants to provide internet service for county offices. The Commissioners requested a meeting with our Intralinks representative to discuss other service options. 

Building Superintendent Jeff Davis reported that the water heater and water softener in the Jail must be replaced at a cost of about $6,600.
Sheriff Jeff Brewer reported on the high cost of the transportation of prisoners, some lodged as far away as Sarpy County. Some trips cost as much as $1,800.

The Commissioners interviewed an applicant for the position of County Road Superintendent. No action taken.

The next meeting of the BOE/BOC is scheduled for Tuesday, April 23 at 9:00 a.m. The minutes of this and all meetings of the Board of Commissioners will be available to the public at the office of the Sheridan County Clerk and now are available online at sheridancounty.ne.gov.
