Commissioners Minutes - Tuesday, April 9, 2024

The Sheridan County Commissioners met in regular session and by Zoom (ID# 93997918251 Passcode# 625274) at 9:20 A.M. on April 9, 2024. All members present. Krotz stated that the meeting would be conducted in accordance with the provisions of the Nebraska Open Meeting Act. This meeting was posted on the official County website and posted in the Sheridan County Journal Star on April 2, 2024.

Messersmith made a motion to accept the agenda with corrections. Kling seconded the motion. With a roll call vote all voted aye.

Messersmith made a motion to approve the minutes of 3-26-2024. Kling seconded the motion. With a roll call vote all voted aye.

Interim Road Superintendent Rod Norton informed the board that Eagle Chevrolet has the new 3500HD Chevrolet pickup ready for us. Norton requested an early claim to cover it. Messersmith made a motion to approve the claim to Eagle Chevrolet for the new 3500HD pickup for $59,865. Kling seconded the motion. With a roll call vote all voted aye.

The board visited with Norton about the road request from J. D. Powell. Upon legal advice, Messersmith made a motion to deny permission to Powell to do any improvements on the open section line along the west side of School Section 16 Township 29 Range 44. Kling seconded the motion. With a roll call vote all voted aye.

Weed Superintendent Seth Tausan requested executive session to discuss personnel matter. At 10:30 A.M. Messersmith made a motion to go into executive session to discuss personnel. Kling seconded the motion. With a roll call vote all voted aye.
At 10:55 A.M. Kling made a motion to come out of executive session. Messersmith seconded the motion. With a roll call vote all voted aye. No action taken. 

Sheriff Jeff Brewer visited with the board about a possible part time officer that has investigation background being added to the staff. The board encouraged the hire. Extension Educator Melissa Mracek presented the board an addendum to the Lease Agreement for the Extension Office. The addendum stated that the landlord would keep the rent at $750 for a minimum of two years if the County moves forward with the addition of two offices in the extension office. With this the landlord will not be responsible for construction costs. Along with this if additional heating or cooling is needed the tenant would be responsible for the costs. The board declined the addendum and decided there would be no remodel at this time. If Extension is successful in filling the open positions, office space is available in the annex building.
