Commissioners Minutes - Tuesday, January 17, 2023

The Sheridan County Commissioners met in regular session and by Zoom (ID# 93997918251 Passcode 625274) at 9:10 A.M. All members present, along with County Clerk Sindy Coburn, Treasurer Renee Thies and Highway Superintendent Richard Cross. Messersmith stated that the meeting would be conducted in accordance with the provisions of the Nebraska Open Meeting Act. This meeting was posted on the official County website and posted in the Sheridan County Journal Star on January 1, 2023. 

Kling made a motion to accept the agenda. Krotz seconded the motion. With a roll call vote all voted aye.

 Kling made a motion to approve the minutes of 1-10-2023. Krotz seconded the motion. With a roll call vote all voted aye. 

The board audited and approved claims.

 Road Superintendent Richard Cross presented the board with his report concerning the closure of an alley in Dewing. Cross recommends the alley to be vacated and ownership returned to the current property owner. Kling made a motion to adopt Resolution #2023-2 setting February 14, 2023 at 9:30 A.M. as the public hearing date to discuss the vacation or abandonment of the alley located in Lots 12-21, in Block 7, in the original townsite of Dewing, NE. Krotz seconded the motion. With a roll call vote all voted aye. 

Cross informed the board that he accepted the contract from Westco for 50,000 gallons of fuel at the price of 3.195/gallon. Cross stated that his guys are working on cleaning up the shops and working on equipment. 

Renee Thies visited with the board about her request for ARPA funds. She will get the requested amounts and present her request next week. J

eff Davis visited with the board about the Hay Springs Shop Door that needs fixed. Clerk Coburn stated that she has not gotten a incident report yet therefore it has not been turned over to insurance yet. Weed Superintendent 

Seth Tausan presented the board with his annual reports with the Nebraska Department of Ag. Tausan received all available points on his evaluation done on December 1, 2022. Kling made a motion to accept the Weed Department annual reports for 2022. Krotz seconded the motion. With a roll call vote all voted aye. 
Tausan informed the board that he uses pictometry a lot in his work. He also stated that he attends several public awareness events throughout the year, Fair, Chadron State Range days, PRIDE, Conservation Day and County Gov Day. 

Catherine Allen, County Court Clerk Magistrate informed the board of an incident that happened during court the other day. While this incident did not develop into anything big, it brought attention to the fact that our emergency buttons on the phone are not adequate. 

The board will visit with the Sheriff, Maintenance Dept and Telephone Company to see what can be done. 

The board did a jail inspection.
