Commissioners Proceedings Statement - Tuesday, January 17, 2023
The Sheridan County Board of Commissioners (BOC) met on Tuesday January 17, at the County Courthouse. Notice of the meeting was published on the county website sheridancounty.ne.gov. The meeting was open to the public and a ZOOM connection was also available. Present were Chairman Bruce Messersmith, Commissioners Dan Kling and James Krotz, County Clerk Sindy Coburn, and Treasurer Renee Thies. The BOC audited and approved claims for payment totaling $345,252. Road Superintendent Rich Cross presented his study of a request to close and vacate an alley in Dewing (Whiteclay) adjacent to the proposed site of a new Dollar General Store. A public hearing on the proposed closure was set for Tuesday, February 14 at 9:30. Cross reported that he had contracted with WESTCO for 50,000 gallons of diesel at $3.195/gallon between February 1, 2023, and February 28, 2024. He also reported that all the front-end loaders are back in working order and all but two motor-graders should be back in service by the end of the day. One of the two disabled motor-graders will require a new engine at a cost of about $68,000. It should be back in service in early February. Building Superintendent Jeff Davis and Treasurer Renee Thies conferred with the Board on the process of preparing a request for ARPA funds to reconfigure the service counter in the Treasurer’s office. They hope to have a proposal ready for submission on the 24th . Weed Superintendent Seth Tausan presented his annual report as required by the Department of Agriculture. Tausan was especially pleased that a grant had made it possible to survey by helicopter a number of challenging riparian tracts where noxious weeds might otherwise gain a foothold. The BOC accepted Tausan’s report for submission to the State. County Court Clerk/Magistrate Catherin Allen met with the Board to discuss a building security issue. The Commissioners conducted their quarterly inspection of the Jail and found it to be clean and in good repair. The next meeting of the Board is scheduled for Tuesday, January 24, 2023. The minutes of this and all meetings of the Board of Commissioners will be available to the public at the office of the Sheridan County Clerk and now are available online at sheridancounty.ne.gov. All meetings of the Board of Commissioners are held in compliance with Nebraska Open Meetings Act and the public is always welcome. Written by James Krotz
