Commissioners Proceedings Statement - Tuesday, April 26, 2022
The Sheridan County Board of Commissioners (BOC) met on Tuesday, April 26, 2022, at the County Courthouse. Notice of the meeting was published on the county website sheridancountyne.gov. The meeting was open to the public and a ZOOM connection was also available. Present were Chairman Bruce Messersmith, Commissioners Dan Kling and James Krotz, County Clerk Sindy Coburn, Clerk of the District Court Carol Stouffer, and Treasurer Renee Thies. 

The Commissioners, convened as the Board of Equalization (BOE), approved the minutes of 4- 19 and heard a report from Assessor Tina Skinner on the state-wide equalization process now underway. 

Road Superintendent Richard Cross presented to the BOC a proposed resolution that would designate a Truck Route on 590th Road within the county. The Commissioners amended the proposal to include a $100 fine for a first offense and a $200 fine for subsequent offenses. A public hearing on the Resolution will convene at 9:30 a.m. on May 17 in the Commissioner’s office. 

Building Superintendent Jeff Davis reported that the back-up generator for the Jail/Sheriff’s Office failed during a power outage on the 23rd. The Board directed Davis to proceed with the necessary repairs to include the proposed option of replacing the existing generator controls which are nearing the end of their life cycle. The repairs and updates will cost $15,898 

Sheriff Jeff Brewer reported on his department’s response to the April 23 winter storm. Blizzard conditions led to a great many stranded motorist calls but there were no collisions or injuries. 

At 10:30 the BOC convened a public hearing on the liquor license application of Sandbox Golf and Gordon County Club LLC. Matt Rosane appeared on behalf of the owners. There was no testimony from the public. The BOC approved the application for submission to the State Liquor Commissioner. 

Weed Superintendent Seth Tausen presented the State’s response to the Weed Department’s annual report. The report scored 3318 points out of a possible 3400. 

The Board discussed information presented by the Deputy County Attorney regarding the position of County Surveyor. 

The Board appointed Caleb Peters of Rushville to the County Extension Board. 

The BOC voted to nominate Nan Gould (Region 23 Emergency Manager) for the Board of Directors of Nebraska Regional Interoperability Network (NRIN) Board of Directors for the Nebraska Panhandle. 

County Clerk Sindy Coburn presented information on upcoming changes to the Blue Cross/Blue Shield health insurance plan for county employees. Following several years of minimal increases, the cost of coverage will increase by 17% in the coming year. 

The Board will not meet on May 10. The next meeting of the Board is scheduled for Tuesday, May17.
