Commissioners Proceedings Statement - Tuesday, October 26, 2021
The Sheridan County Board of Commissioners (BOC) convened on October 26, 2021, at the County Courthouse. Notice of the meeting was published on the county website sheridancountyne.gov. The meeting was open to the public and a ZOOM connection was also available. Present were Vice-Chairman Bruce Messersmith, Commissioner James Krotz, Clerk Sindy Coburn and Treasurer Renee Thies. Chairman Loren Paul attended and presided via ZOOM. 

Acting as the Board of Equalization (BOE) the Commissioners reviewed and approved the minutes of the October 19 meeting. 

Assessor Tina Skinner presented two valuation corrections (clerical errors) for approval; Carol Dishong and Thomas Strasburger. The Corrections were approved. Skinner then presented a list of four changes to assessed value due to deed changes and splits: Barbara Rabeler, Elisha Risse, Bruce Messersmith, Thomas & Teresa Sanders. Changes were approved. The BOC deferred any action on the Opioid Settlement Agreement pending review by the County Attorney. 

The BOC voted to declare November 13 - 21, 2021as National Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week in Sheridan County. 

Vice Chairman Bruce Messersmith was designated as Sheridan County’s elector to the Nebraska Association of County Officials (NACO) convention. Clerk Sindy Coburn was designated as the alternate. 

Road Superintendent Richard Cross reported that the department still has one employee on sick leave due to Covid. 

The Commissioners discussed the current policy on Public Comment at BOC meetings. Chairman Paul asked Krotz to draft an update to the policy for consideration at the next meeting. 

The BOC reviewed and approved the annual service agreement with PowerTech for maintenance of the emergency electrical generator that serves the public safety building. 

Val Jansante, assistant to Congressman Adrian Smith, presented a legislative update. 

The next meeting of the BOE and BOC is scheduled for Tuesday, November 9 at 9:00 a.m. All meetings will be open to the public and will also be available on ZOOM – check the Public Notices page of the county website for the meeting number and passcode. The minutes of this and all meetings of the Board of Commissioners will be available to the public at the office of the Sheridan County Clerk and online at sheridancounty.ne.gov. All meetings of the Board of Commissioners are held in compliance with Nebraska Open Meetings Act and the public is always welcome.
