Commissioners Minutes - Wednesday, August 26, 2020

The Sheridan County Board of Commissioners met in regular session at 9 A.M. in the Commissioners Office, Courthouse.   Krotz and Messersmith were present, Paul was excused.  Messersmith stated that the meeting would be conducted in accordance with the provisions of the Nebraska Open Meeting Act.

Krotz made a motion to accept the agenda.  Messersmith seconded the motion.  All voted aye.  Krotz made a motion to approve the minutes of 8-18-2020.  Messersmith seconded the motion.  All voted aye.

The board signed checks for 8-31-2020 payroll.   The board reviewed a resolution discussing the appointment/election of a county surveyor.  For many years the county has appointed a county surveyor on a case by case basis.

However new statutes now require that counties with a population of less that 150,000 must put before the voters the question of whether the county should appoint or elect their county surveyor.  Messersmith made a motion to approve Resolution #2020-13-2 submitting the question of establishing an elected office for the office of County Surveyor on the November 3, 2020 ballot.    Krotz seconded the motion.  With a roll call vote all voted aye.

Galyen Farms submitted a sub-division for approval.  Krotz made a motion to approve and sign the Galyen Hills Subdivision Plans located in SE1/4 of Sec 27-Twn 31 North, Range 46 West.    Messersmith seconded the motion.  With a roll call vote all voted aye.

   Messersmith made a motion to authorize the Gordon Golf Course to serve alcohol beginning at 8 A.M. on Sunday August 30, 2020.   Krotz seconded the motion.  With a roll call vote all voted aye.

Attorney Aaron Conn appeared on behalf of Reverse 7L Inc & Tanner J and Cassie A Johnson to request a rural subdivision of 3.5 acres.   Krotz made a motion to approve the subdivision of 3.5 acres located in Sec 14, Twn 31, Range 44 for a residential site.  Messersmith seconded the motion.  With a roll call vote all voted aye.

Road Superintendent Richard Cross reported that he signed a three year contract with Hughbanks for gravel. Cross stated that his crews are doing what they can in the dry conditions.
The remainder of the day was spent with Budget Coordinator, Caleb Johnson working on budget preparation.
