Commissioners Proceedings Statement - Tuesday, May 26, 2020
The Sheridan County Board of Commissioners met on the internet platform ZOOM at 9:00 on Tuesday, May 26 as advertised by public notice. Present the meeting were Commissioners Loren Paul, Bruce Messersmith and James Krotz, Clerk Sindy Coburn, Treasurer Renee Thies, Assessor Tina Skinner, Clerk of the District Court Carol Stouffer, Building Superintendent Jeff Davis, and Road Superintendent Richard Cross.

Acting as the Board of Equalization (BOE) the Commissioners reviewed and approved a list of 5 overvalued and 5 undervalued properties as presented by the Assessor.
The Treasurer presented a Vehicle Exemption request from Northeast Panhandle Substance Abuse Center (NEPSAC) for a 2009 Ford Econoline. The request was approved.

Road Superintended Richard Cross reported on the progress of projects southeast and northeast of Gordon that are making use of the gravel reclaimed from the Cowboy trail. The hauling and placement of red-rock from South Dakota will continue with an additional 1.5 miles on 460th lane south of Hay Springs. Cross reported that the contractors rebuilding highway 18 east of Pine Ridge expect to salvage and offer for sale a 10 x 10 box culvert that would fit the requirements for replacing a bridge near the Gordon airport. The cost of the culvert is $14,000 with additional cost for hauling and placement. The original projected cost of the project was $60,000 so the Commissioners encouraged Cross to proceed.

At the request of Deputy County Attorney Jamian Simmons the Commissioners approved an engagement letter with the firm of Woods & Aitken for legal service in an employment matter.

Building Superintendent Davis reported on the installation of “sneeze guards” in courthouse offices. With the support of the Elected Officials the Commissioners voted to re-open the courthouse to the public on June 1, 2020. Visitors to the Courthouse are requested to bring and wear their own facemask and to maintain a “social distance” of six feet. County Offices will be open but access to some areas may be limited. Sheridan County encourages citizens to make use of the online services available at the County website at https://sheridancounty.ne.gov.

The next scheduled meeting of the Commissioners will be Tuesday June 9 at 9:00 at the Courthouse.
