Leadership

"The challenge of leadership is to be strong, but not rude; be kind, but not weak; be bold, but not bully; be thoughtful, but not lazy; be humble but not timid; be proud, but not arrogant; have humor without folly." Webster's Dictionary Definition; "an act or instance of leading, guidance, direction."

Leadership is a series of conversations that pull people together toward a common goal and becoming comfortable with one another. This is why leadership development is not an event, it is a process of participating in respectful conversations and building safe & trusting relationships. Someone asked me recently if we were done yet with our Eden at the Manor. My answer was, "I hope not."

The Eden Alternative that we are trying to implement and develop at our facility is similar to the statement you just read about Leadership. Eden is not an event, it is a way of life, a process of change and building better relationships with our elders and their families and staff.Through our Eden training at the facility you can see staff leading by example, sharing with one another about their beliefs and dreams and demonstrating those convictions through their actions and behavior while at work and looking for ways to help each other succeed, they are keeping Eden alive.

A hospitality committee has been formed to start planning some staff activities, such as parties and potlucks. Times when staff and their families can get together with other staff and their families to try and get to know one another better. When we know each other on a more personal level we are better able to understand each other and this improves the working relationship among staff, thus creating a better environment for Elders. The hospitality committee is also planning get together with elders and their families, when these invitations arrive in the mail, please make plans to attend these events, this is an opportunity to create memories and enjoy being with your loved one. Leaders have many qualities, honesty, forward looking, ability to accept criticism, courageous, kind and desire to inspire others. You will find these qualities among the staff at the facility, If you haven't been to see us in awhile please stop by, you will be pleasantly surprised. Not only has our facility changed aesthetically, but also in a more open, friendly atmosphere for our elders & their families.

We want to be a vital part of this community and a place everyone can be proud of. We need your support and encouragement. If you have any suggestions for improvement please tell us and when you see acts of kindness taking place please tell us that too.
