Happy Summer from the Activities Department!!!

Here are some highlights from the last 3 months that have kept us busy:

April—The Hastings College Bell Choir came and played. They also had a cello and violin. Very entertaining! Lou Kraus and Lou Coppersmith provided us with some good ‘ole country music with a hour long concert. They hadn’t been here for a long time so it was great that they were here.

May—We had our first ethnic day which was celebrated with a German Day. We had homemade runzas, German chocolate cake. Susan had a special presentation about Germany in the afternoon. The 6th Grade had their Community Service Project at the Manor this year. They came and did a concert for us, providing us with great music and choreography. Our very own Bonnie Shook and Karen Wood were picked to sing with them. They were presented with a bouquet of flowers from the class. After the concert, the POM POMS provided us with an Ice Cream Social. Mr. C did an awesome job

with this project!! National Nursing Home Week was in May and we kicked that off with a Mother’s Day Party. We had a special Balloon Lift Off and our Mayor Annie Longan came and signed the Proclamation. The rest of the week was celebrated with different activities. Let me tell ya, this was a BUSY month for us!!

June—We had our very first FAMILY/STAFF/RESIDENT FUN DAY. And believe me, it was fun. We started the day off with a picnic. Followed by games for the kids, wading pools that they could sit and cool off in, water guns, water balloons, a watermelon eating contest, and last but not least, the Mini Manor Olympics! The residents could come out anytime of day and watch the festivities. If you didn't make it, you should of!! A great time was had by all!! Susan made special cookies and handed them out for Father’s Day. More activities are planned for outside, IF our weather cooperates.

If you have any questions, comments, or concerns, please let me know. We are always looking for volunteers so if you are interested please call. Come and visit—we would love to see you!!

Spring is here

Sue Irey, DON - Nursing

The Nursing Department has recently added 3 new staff members to our team. Chuck Sargent, LPN is working the night shift on the weekends. He also works full-time at the Chase County Community Hospital. Gwen Werner, LPN is working part-time on the night shift and is also an employee at CCCH. Tiffany Allen, LPN is working part-time and will work various shifts. A big welcome to them all! We welcome back from maternity leave Breanna Smith. Congrats on a baby girl!

We have been celebrating our Direct Care Staff with receptions, roses, and t-shirts. Its our way of saying “Thank you for a job well done”. May 6-12 was National Nurses Week and June 12-19 was National Nurse Aide Week. We are lucky to have the staff that we do and appreciate all of their hard work and caring toward our elders.

There was a CNA certification class offered here June 16-27. Five people completed the course and a graduation ceremony was held for them on June 27. Congratulations! The instructor for the class was Sue Eskew. Thank you, Sue. Enjoy your summer!

Cheryl Giesselmann - Dietary

There are some new faces in the dietary department. Lensey Griebel has joined our staff as our Full time evening cook. Lensey has recently moved to Imperial with her boyfriend and daughter. She has a real interest in food and the residents. Also new to the staff is Kelsey Owens, who has joined our team as a part time morning cook. Kelsey lives outside of Champion with her husband Matt and daughter Payton. We are very excited to have Kelsey on board. And last but not least is Tessa Linner. She has joined us as a part time dietary aide. Tessa will be starting her senior year at Chase County this next school year and we are excited to have her.

We are continuing to celebrate resident's birthdays by having a birthday meal for each one of them. The residents have really enjoyed having that special time with their family and friends. If out of town family is coming and it would work better to celebrate on another day, just give us a call and we can make the arrangements. We look forward to seeing all of you here.

Well warm weather is finally upon us. We can stow the snow shovels and ice melt for awhile. We have turned our energies to the yard work. When you come and visit , feel free to take your family and stroll around the roses. There are so many now and they have such a wonderful fragrance.

We are still working on the inside of the facility as well. We have begun our work on the bathing facilities. They are taking a very nice change for the better. The two in the front are finished and the back one will be soon we hope. If you have not stopped in and seen the chapel redo, you need to. We still have the windows to finish, but that will come soon.

We continue to make progress on the sprucing up both inside and out. Every week we plan something new and the list just keeps growing. Housekeeping is busy with the warm weather being able to wash windows outside and do some spring cleaning still.

Our laundry still has some lost and found clothing items that don’t seem to be marked. If you have a minute stop by and visit with them. And as always if there is something we need to address that we have overlooked please let us know. If we can be of assistance in any way, remember that’s what we are here for.
